An Ohio man has been arrested after a Salvation Army worker discovered vile photos of him raping a toddler inside his donated tote bag.

Gary Sovie, 49, was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Friday, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Sovie had donated the bag to a Salvation Army Store in Columbus, Ohio, on May 25.

Among the items in the bag were 32 Polaroids showing him sexually assault a young girl.

The girl's mother said at a court testimony that the photos were from 1999, when her daughter was between 16 and 18 months old.

Police traced the images back to Sovie via pay stubs and mail inside the tote bag that the Salvation Army worker had handed into them.

"I'm a very sick person," Sovie admitted to detectives.

Sovie pleaded guilty in Franklin County Common Pleas Court to one count each of rape and pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.

Judge Julie M. Lynch described Sovie's actions as being "the bottom of the barrel for a human being.

"[The attorneys] told me this case would make me sick, and you're right."

Sovie has also been fined $35,000 for each offence.
