It's Probably Time You Deleted Your Old MySpace Account

It's Probably Time You Deleted Your Old MySpace Account

No matter how much you don't want to go on it.

As much as you probably don't want to access your MySpace account ever again, it's probably time you did.

Work your way through the labyrinth of shite selfies taken on a Sony Ericcson W810i, the pictures of friends that you edited on paint, and your declaration of love for your girlfriend of one week at the age of 14, and delete.

According to Time Inc., MySpace's parent website, as many as 360 million accounts from the now virtually dead social media site turned up for sale in a 33-gigabyte dump online.

Despite the fact your account may have been inactive since the glory days of summer 2007, a lot of information is being sold such as passwords, email addresses, and usernames.

This news probably won't fill you with much worry as you haven't used your account in years, but most people use the same, if not similar passwords for everything. It wouldn't be hard for someone to use the credentials they've gained to access your current accounts - failing that, they'll probably just laugh at some of the cringey crap on your MySpace.

Some of the personal data was selling for thousands of dollars, outlining the fact that even outdated information can carry value.

In a blog posted by MySpace, it was said that the affected passwords had been disabled so that anybody who got hold of the leaked credentials couldn't gain access to accounts.

Whatever the reason the old data may get used for, whether it be fraud, marketing, or something else, it is still worth being on the safe side and deleting your account - no matter how long it's been left unused.

You really don't want the possibility of someone being able to access your entire digital life.
