University Being Investigated After Freshers Caught Wearing Racist Shirts

There are lots of reasons not to like students: freeloading, entitlement, terrible music taste, sanctimonious politics etc etc. But now they've gone that extra yard and turned full heel by embracing racism.

To be fair, I shouldn't generalise. It's just the University of Exeter I'm going after here. They've had a probe launched at their campuses after a bunch of freshers were snapped wearing t-shirts scrawled in hate speech like 'the Holocaust was a good time'.

The hand-written slogan-shirts also boasted of tasteless shite like: "Don't speak to me if you're not white".

It was a Palestinian student who secretly caught the obscene students' get-up during a sports event during freshers.

The photos were first uploaded to +972 - an online publication which tracks the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

The student, who preferred not be named, wrote: "Making light of genocide and white privilege is not 'banter', you fucking imbeciles."

At the Exeter Snowsports club, students were invited to wear white t-shirts and scrawl random comments on each others' shirts with felt-tip pens.

Sports chiefs at Exeter University have now banned future white T-shirt social events.

A spokesman said: "The University of Exeter is an inclusive and friendly environment where all students are welcomed."Anti-Semitic, racist or bigoted behaviour in any form is not tolerated.

"An investigation was launched as soon as the university learnt of this incident."

University of Exeter Athletic Union President, Josh Callander, also said: "The Athletic Union operates a zero-tolerance policy towards racist or bigoted behaviour.

"We have banned any future sporting social events which involve the practice of students writing on white T-shirts. We want to prevent anything like this happening again, and I would like to apologise to anyone affected.

"We have run more than 200 sporting taster sessions for new students this month and we are very disappointed that the unacceptable actions of a few individuals has overshadowed what has so far been a very successful Freshers' Week."

Mark Kiner, a member of the Jewish Society and Friends of Israel, said: "We condemn this and any other kind of anti-semitism and racism in the strongest terms.

"Some individuals might think that it's merely a joke and doesn't mean much but these were real events which happened to real people, and as such they should be respected.

"We urge the university to investigate and punish the students involved accordingly."
