A man who vowed to change his diet and his weight has managed to lose nearly eight stone (50kg) after eating nothing but potatoes.

The very unusual tactic has clearly worked and Andrew Taylor now even says that he thinks his mental health has improved as a result.

Andrew started the year weighing almost 24st (151.7kg) and now comes in at about 15.5st (99kg).

On the 1st January 2016, he decided that he wanted to lose weight and so swapped his diet of deep-fried food, pizza, chocolate and ice cream to literally just spuds.

Speaking to news.com.au, Andrew said: "I was clinically depressed last year and eating potatoes has really helped me with that.

"I am not taking any antidepressants and I feel like I'm completely over that and I'm sleeping better, too.

"Over the past 10 years I've had joint pain from football injuries, but that's gone away. Eating only potatoes has improved my life in more ways than I could ever imagine."

He described how difficult it can be when you're literally addicted to something you need to survive as he said: "I had a realisation I was a food addict and it got me thinking about how if you're an alcoholic you quit alcohol, or a drug addict you quit drugs.

"You can't quit food, but I wanted to get as close as possible and wondered if there was one particular food I could eat and potatoes came up best.

"You literally get everything you need from potatoes. Everybody knows they've got lots of carbs but they have enough protein and fat and potatoes are really good for fibre, vitamin C and iron."

Apparently, the first couple of weeks were incredibly difficult. However, he said that once a fortnight passed - all of his cravings disappeared.

If you were wondering just how many potatoes he manages to chow down every day - it's about three to four kilograms.

Bear in mind, this diet isn't recommended. Andrew's doctor only agreed to support him after he promised to come in for regular check-ups. Please consult your doctor before you make any drastic changes to your diet.
