Nobel prize-winner and Pakistani human rights activist Malala Yousafzai got married earlier this week at a small ceremony in the city of Birmingham. Here's everything we know about her new husband, Asser Malik.

Malala Yousafazi, 24, first came to the UK in October 2012, after she was shot in the face by a Taliban gunman for campaigning for education for girls. After being given initial treatment in Pakistan, she was moved to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the UK, which specialises in treating military personnel.

Malala has continued to live in the UK with her family since the murder attempt and continued to campaign for human rights and education for girls in Pakistan. She attended Edgbaston High School in the city and in 2020, graduated from Oxford University with a degree in philosophy, politics and economics.

On 9th November 2021, Malala announced the news of her wedding and wrote on Instagram: "Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead."

Who is Malala's husband?

Asser Malik is a high-performance general manager at the Pakistan's cricket governing body, the Pakistan Cricket Board, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He's worked at the board since May 2020 and before that, worked the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans previously as an operational manager.

According to his profile, he also owns an amateur league franchise called Last Man Stands in Pakistan, which he said he established in an attempt to revive grassroots cricket in an "organised and structured" manner in the country.

Malik studied at Lahore University of Management Sciences and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in economics and political science in 2012.

How did Malala and Asser Malik meet?

We're not sure exactly how long they've known each other, or how the two met, but there's a selfie of them cheering on the team at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham in 2019 on his Instagram.
