Guinness thieves steal 800 kegs of alcohol from two trucks in massive heist

In a crime that has all the trappings of a classic crime caper, over 70,000 pints of Guinness have been stolen from two trucks.

Laden with more than 800 kegs each filled with 50-litres of Ireland’s most famous stout, two HGV trailers were robbed in a matter of minutes from their Runcorn, Cheshire depot.

Police state £115,000 of the beer was taken shortly after 7.45pm on Monday August 31 after a lorry was driven inside the distribution centre, attached to one of the trailers before driving away after ten minutes, reports the Daily Star.

A second lorry was reportedly driven into the site 90 minutes after the first lorry had departed. The second lorry was connected to the remaining trailer and after 18 minutes it too was driven away.

No CCTV has yet been released by police of the incident, but an appeal to the public for any information in connection with the theft has been issued. The pair of trailers are white with GXO company logos on the rear doors and curtains.

The first driver is described as a white man with a short cut beard, wearing a beanie-style hat. The second man is only described as wearing a cap.

Cheshire Police’s Detective Sergeant McClatchy said: "It is famously said that “Guinness is good for you”, but that is only the case when it has been bought and paid for.

"It is with this in mind that we have wasted no time in launching enquires to identify those responsible for the theft of £115,000 worth Guinness and the two trailers that housed the barrels – we will settle for nothing less than the full recovery of all the items stolen.

"As part of our investigation into fully established what has occurred, we are now appealing to anyone who has any information in relation to the theft to please come forward and speak to officers.

"We would also ask any motorists who were driving in the area at the time of either of the incidents to please review any dashcam footage to see if you have captured anything that could aid our investigation."
