People are up in arms about a new Guinness concoction being offered out to punters at a pub in Dublin, with some fans of the dark stuff branding it 'a load of nonsense'.

It’s a known fact that the UK and Ireland love the drink, and maybe just a little bit too much, considering one pub once had to issue ‘Guinness Ration Cards’ due to fears of a national shortage.

Yep, a report from The Irish Times last year warned of an exceptional rise in demand for the dark ale that led to a shortage in supply.

While there didn’t end up being too little of the black stuff to go around, it did make people think about how much Guinness we were consuming.

And while the Irish stout has a 0 percent alcohol version to keep up with the rise in people who choose not to drink booze, punters are now being given a third option.

That’s where the ‘60/40’ pint comes in, and it’s caused a ruckus online.

The drink, which is being offered at the Palmerstown House Pub, in Old Lucan Road in Dublin, has set the internet on fire with its 60 percent Guinness 0.0, and 40 percent Guinness 4.2 mixture.

The pub announced the new drink on Instagram, writing to potential punters: “Try our new '60/40' in the Palmerstown House. All of the Guinness character, just a little lighter!

"Great for when you're in the mood for a pint but with a little less alcohol! Just ask for a '60/40'”.

Thankfully, the drink is still made with the traditional two-stage pour. The Guinness Zero is poured first, and then the alcoholic Guinness is poured after.

Some called it ‘a load of nonsense', and others were adamant it ‘should be illegal’.

But then there were those who understood the market for it.

One wrote: “People crying about people wanting to drink a bit less alcohol or maybe have a couple and still be able to drive. Nobody is forcing it on you. Drink what you like, just relax and let others drink what they want too.”

Another shared: “Great to see you making it an actual thing”.

While it’s not the first time someone has shaken up the usual black ale, it’s probably the most controversial time.

No matter which side you sit on, the '60/40' could be a happy medium as we enter the festive period.
