Amber Heard pays $1 million settlement to Johnny Depp after they come to agreement

The money is going to five different charities

Amber Heard has paid the $1 million (£795,000) legal settlement agreed with her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, with five different charities of his choosing selected as the beneficiaries of the money.

The settlement was agreed following the defamation trial which was held after Depp sued Heard for an op-ed piece she wrote for The Washington Post.

He sued her for $50 million while she issued a counterclaim for $100 million, which resulted in a high-profile trial.

Depp won the case and Heard was initially ordered to pay him $15 million in damages, later reduced to $10 million, while he was ordered to pay her $2 million in compensatory damages in return.

However, the damages were later reduced to a settlement of $1 million, which Depp said would go to charity and TMZ reports that this figure has now been paid out to him.

They report that the $1 million settlement is covered by Heard's insurance and Depp has received it, with the fee being split equally among the five charities he has chosen.

It'll be $200,000 (£159,000) each to the various charities which the actor has chosen.

Among those Depp has elected are the Make-A-Film Foundation, a charity which works with critically ill children to help them make short films, and The Painted Turtle which provides a camp experience for kids with serious medical conditions.

The three other charities receiving the money are Red Feather, which seeks to provide safe housing to Native Americans, the Tetiaroa Society that is working to preserve the ecosystem on the Pacific island, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance that protects indigenous communities in the world's largest tropical rainforest.

TMZ also report that Depp's selection of The Painted Turtle and the Tetiaroa Society are tributes to two Hollywood icons he greatly respects, Paul Newman and Marlon Brando.

Newman founded The Painted Turtle and Brando was an advocate for preserving the life and ecosystem of the island of Tetiaroa.

Since the conclusion of the defamation trial, both Heard and Depp have returned to their acting careers.

Despite claims that she had been axed from upcoming superhero film Aquaman 2, Heard appeared in the movie's trailer with the film set to release at the end of this year.

Depp, meanwhile, has portrayed France's King Louis XV in period drama film Jeanne du Barry which released to mixed reviews.

It's his first film in years and the actor has said he has 'no further need' for Hollywood, but doesn't feel boycotted by the film industry.

LADbible has contacted Amber Heard's representatives for comment.
