The father of a 2-year-old boy killed at a Disney resort says there were two alligators involved in the attacks.

Lane Graves was dragged off and killed by an alligator at the Florida's Walt Disney World Resort last month.

His dad Matt has now claimed that while he was trying to save his son, he himself was attacked by a second alligator.

Lane was killed at the Seven Seas Lagoon at Walt Disney World's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Metro have reported that Matt gave details of the attack to a fire captain.

He apparently shared the story about what happened while on his way to hospital to receive treatment for the injuries sustained.

Orange County officials have now been informed about the second alligator.

The Orlando Sentinel also reported that sheriff's office spokesman Angelo Nieves had said on Sunday a witness also said he had seen a second alligator attack the father.

Email messages from Matt Graves were obtained by the newspaper from the Reedy Creek Fire Department.

The newspaper added that Captain Tom Wellons relayed the father's account from the day after the incident to his supervisors.

Trappers killed and dissected up to five alligators in the search for the toddler. Eventually Lane's body was found underwater and recovered intact around 17 hours later after the search began.

According to state records, alligators are a common problem in Walt Disney World. In the past 10 years there have been over 240 'nuisance' alligators captured and killed on the theme park's land.

Following the tragic death, the resort have erected signs warning of alligators and snakes in the area, and have removed alligator references - such as Tick Tock from Peter Pan.
