Australian TV presenter questions whether Meghan Markle had real tears at the Queen's funeral

Karl Stefanovic hit out at the Duchess of Sussex by claiming she was 'allegedly' crying at the royal farewell to Queen Elizabeth II.

Australian television host Karl Stefanovic let his frustration with Meghan Markle boil over during their breakfast show following Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.

The Today host implied that pictures of the Duchess of Sussex wiping away tears at the Westminster Abbey service were misleading.

"There's been lots of photos around and interpretations of photos and reading into photos [meanings] that may or may not be true," Stefanovic said during the segment, which ran at 6.20am local time.

"There's a couple of Meghan, um, with a tear running down her face - apparently - and also even one of Princess Charlotte that everyone was saying she was crying, and we don't know if it was true or not."

Whether he meant 'apparently' as though he hadn't seen the images or whether he asked about the authenticity of the tears is up for debate.

As they presented the Australian breakfast show from outside Buckingham Palace, co-host Allison Langdon smirked and looked at Stefanovic following his use of the word 'allegedly'.

Today/Nine.

The Duchess of Sussex was one of many who wept as the Queen's coffin was carried out of Westminster Abbey.

She stood with Queen Consort Camilla, Princess Catherine of Wales, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte.

Markle, 41, stood with the Queen Consort at her side, buffering her from the other royals as rumours of a rift between Markle and Princess Catherine continue.

But Stefanovic isn't the only person to lash out at the former Suits actor.

Body language expert Adrianne Carter told the Daily Star that it is 'hard to tell' if her tears were 'genuine'.

"It’s hard to tell if the tears are genuine sadness but Meghan certainly knows that tears would be spotted and photographed," she said, as per the Daily Star.

"We don’t see much muscle movement in Meghan's face in the photo which would be activated with genuine emotional expressions."

However, the expert went on to add: "She could also be keeping herself tightly in check emotionally."
