Watch: Irish rugby legend Peter Stringer has a new role, but it’s not what you might expect

Did someone put an empty bottle of milk back in the fridge? Call in Stringer.

He may have retired a few years ago, but the sight of Peter Stringer zipping about the rugby pitch is not one rugby fans will ever forget. The man was simply a live wire, and stood up to opposition of any shape and size without so much as a flicker of hesitation.

From his crisp passing to countless tap tackles and a stolen conversion against Australia’s James O’Connor (definitely worth looking up), Strings will always be a legend. Few players before or after have managed to tick the same boxes as the Cork man, and we doubt anyone ever will.

Basically, he’s the kind of guy that you would like to have on your side. It should come as no surprise that he has recently been announced as a brand ambassador for leading global online betting and gaming brand Betway, just ahead of the hotly anticipated 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Sometimes in life you need to be able to call upon someone with the authoritative aura of Strings, as you can always count on the former Munster man to tell it like it is. Imagine, say, you could call upon him as a ref would a TV match official in a game of rugby.

Did someone put an empty bottle of milk back in the fridge? Call in Stringer.

Are you and your partner having a conversation where they clearly aren’t listening? Call in Stringer.

Is some lunatic microwaving day-old garlic mackerel in the office canteen? Call in Stringer (and the police).

Thankfully, he’s as reliable at answering the call of the Irish public as he always was at picking the ball out of the bottom of a ruck. Together with Betway, he offered an inside look at the high-tech set up he has (that isn’t in any way the same as spying on people from his basement, FYI) for acting as a TMO in real life situations similar to those listed above.

Your daily dose of Strings

If you’re excited about the prospect of having a real-life TMO, there’s a good chance you’re also excited about what will take place in France over the next few weeks. Aside from keeping a close eye on everyone else, you can also keep a close eye on what Peter Stringer makes of this year’s Rugby World Cup.

It’s a particularly exciting tournament this year with it arguably being harder than ever to predict the winner, so you know there will be plenty of big surprises coming our way. Predicting what is likely to happen requires not only a good understanding of the game but also experience of the tournament itself.

Who better than someone who has been to two of them himself?

Over the course of the tournament, Stringer will be sharing his insights and tips for what you can expect from upcoming fixtures. He’s a man who knows what he’s talking about when it comes to a rugby pitch, so you would have a hard time finding someone with a better rugby brain!

“I’m delighted to be joining one of the world’s biggest betting brands as an official ambassador. I look forward to helping rugby fans garner valuable insights with my thoughts on the game’s biggest tournaments, starting with the biggest of all, the World Cup,” Peter says.
