The body of a man who has been missing for the past 10 years has been found in a pub freezer.

Roy Bigg was found in the disused Simpson’s Wine Bar in east London, on 15 October last year.

Builders had been working on the site when they discovered the man's remains in a freezer in the basement.

Mr Bigg, who disappeared in early 2012 when he was 67, was only recently identified by his dental records.

However, a post-mortem was inconclusive in providing a cause of death.

Police have since launched an investigation into the case and believe he was in his late 60s or early 70s when he died.

In a statement, Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen urged anyone who might have any information on Mr Bigg's death to come forward.

He said: "We believe that Roy’s body may have been in the freezer for a number of years.

"Speaking to people who knew him will help us establish not only his lifestyle and habits, but also when he was last seen.

"If you knew Roy please do get in touch with us – his birth date was 8 September 1944, we believe he would have been aged around 70 when he died.

"It doesn’t matter if it’s been a long time since you knew him, or if you only knew him briefly, any information may be of real significance to our inquiries."

Ms Allen added: "We have released an image of Roy and hope that anyone who knew him will take the time to come forward and speak with us.
