People Think They've Exposed BGT Witch As 'Major' TV Star

People Think They've Exposed BGT Witch As 'Major' TV Star

The internet has been awash with speculation following the act's creepy debut last Saturday night

Britain’s Got Talent’s terrifying ‘Witch’ character was all anybody could talk about following Saturday night’s episode of the long-running talent show, and now social media is awash with theories as to who could be lurking behind the mask.

The witch’s performance left fans on edge as they watched the character leave judge Amanda Holden screaming in fear, while her co-host Alesha Dixon ended up running from her seat in terror as the creepy character turned an apple into a rotting pile of maggots right in front of their eyes before disappearing in a burst of sparks.

The act terrified the judges.

While the stunt impressed and unsettled BGT viewers in equal measure, due to the act’s heavy use of facial prosthetics people have begun to speculate who the witch could really be, with many convinced they might secretly be a major star in disguise.

One of the early theories floating around is that the witch might really be BGT spin-off host and noted magician Stephen Mulhern, who got a cheeky mention from singer Honey Scott earlier in the night about how he wasn’t part of the show anymore.

Others believe that it might really be former BGT performer Marc Spelmann, who finished as a runner up in the 2019 edition of the show by portraying a similarly mysterious character referred to only as ‘Magician X’

But the latest theory floating around is that the witch’s true identity might be none other than Celebrity Juice host Leigh Francis, more regularly referred to by the name of his most famous character, Keith Lemon.

Outlandish as it may seem, there is form for this - Francis was known for his heavy use of prosthetics while working on the show Bo Selecta, and has previously played Amanda Holden’s grandmother on BBC mockumentary Mandy & Myrtle.

But others have gone one step further still, and have even gone as far as to suggest the witch might be none other than BGT hosts Ant & Dec themselves.

One Twitter user wrote: "The Witch was either @lemontwittor or @antanddec."

Another noted: “Ya know how ant and Dec Always look like ant and Dec in ‘undercover’ even with all that makeup on… and nobody sees it’s them… I’m getting pure Dec vibes off that witch!!”

“The witch on bgt is either Ant or Dec reason 1 .. the creepy crawlies 2 the lads were NOT shown side of stage during performance 3 Listen to the voice CAREFULLY it’s ANT !”, a third user claimed.

But others stuck to their guns: "Anyone else think the Witch is Marc Spelmann?", wrote one user, to which another viewer responded: "This is what I said. I think it's a great shout. [...] It's just the kinda thing he would do. I thought it instantly."

Whoever the witch is, they’ve certainly managed to capture the public’s imagination in a way that few acts have been able to on BGT, and the guessing game just adds to the mystique.
