Man sent eerie message about hearing 'howling' before being found 'executed' in his tent

A man who relocated from the US to Puerto Rico has been bumped off, execution-style, by a 'howling' assailant.

35-year-old Tyler Wilkin was discovered with a bullet hole in the head almost three weeks ago, at Playa La Selva in Luquillo, but his final text messages to pals are raising eyebrows.

In the days prior to his passing, Wilkin is said to have arranged a group camping trip to the remote area, which harbours designated family camping spots.

On July 8, his girlfriend Iva Mo dropped Wilkin off so he could reserve them a space there for the weekend.

That night, the camper (who was tooled up with a machete and pocketknife) told his friends over the phone that he could hear howls and fireworks going off near his tent.

Over the next 24 hours, the so-called 'howler' returned to the site.

In the early hours of July 10, Wilkin sent a message that would be his last, reading: 'Oh, this guy is getting rowdy lol'.

Telemundo Puerto Rico report local police currently have no suspects and that the investigation remains open.

"He wasn't just a victim of a homicide," said a heartbroken Mo, who described Wilkin as an outdoorsman (per First Alert 6).

"He was the love of my life. My best friend. Tyler deserved to come home. And he deserves some answers and our entire community deserves justice."

In the aftermath of his mysterious death, Wilkins' friends have launched a GoFundMe campaign as a means of affording a private investigator.

At the time of writing, $26,011 (£19,306) of the $30,000 (£22,267) target has been raised in donations.

This target was originally down as $15k (£11,133), but the rapidity of its success meant that Wilkins' loved ones could source even more money towards the cause.

"Our hope is that, through this additional support, we can find clarity and honour Tyler's memory with the dedication and care he deserves," the page read.

"Every contribution, no matter the amount, will go directly toward these investigative efforts. More than anything, this fundraiser is a reflection of how deeply Tyler was loved and how many lives he touched."

It continued: "We are determined to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of the truth, and these additional funds will help us cover any and all expenses that may arise during the private investigation.

"Tyler deserved a full life, and he deserves for every possible avenue to be explored. We remain hopeful that there will be answers and a resolution, and we are committed to seeing this through."

Should the donations exceed investigative costs, the remaining cash will go directly to Wilkins' family to support them.
