The White House has shared a strange message after the Republicans suffered heavy losses in the US midterm elections.
The Democrats have swept the board in the midterms, taking the Senate and the House of Representatives, including flipping seats in Republican strongholds.
Following the punishing elections, the White House shared a statement on social media, saying in a picture shared to X: "PSA: Trump is still your president."
This was accompanied by a post with the caption 'thank you for your attention to this matter'.

White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung also shared a message, writing: "Donald J Trump is the President of the United States. Still your President!"
What does the midterm election results mean for Trump and the Republicans?
While this is true and Trump is still President, losing both the House of Representatives and the Senate so spectacularly is likely to prove a serious thorn in Trump's side as the Democrats find themselves in a much stronger position to effectively oppose the president in these arenas.

The strange but seemingly defiant statement comes after the blue wave swept across the US, with voters swinging towards the Democrats across the board.
Some states which had not seen success for the Democrats in decades still made the switch, showing the sheer scale of the swing towards the Democrats.
These included the Democrats winning Senate seats in Kansas, which hasn't seen a Democrat going to Senate since 1932, as well in Texas for the first time since 1988, and South Carolina for the first time since 1998.
The Democrats have flipped a total of seven seats in the Senate, giving them 54 seats in total.
Meanwhile, in the House of Representatives, they have already passed the bar of 218 to gain a majority with a large number of seats yet to declare at the time of writing.
Has the tide turned for Donald Trump?
It has come after a tumultuous second term in the White House for Trump, which has seen a soaring cost of living after he introduced tariffs on imported goods.
The US' war in Iran, which has seen a sustained bombing campaign on Iranian cities and infrastructure, has resulted in international chaos as the Islamic Republic responded by blocking the strategically important Strait of Hormuz through which a huge proportion of the world's oil shipments must pass, sending oil prices surging.
Domestically as well, Trump's second term has taken a bizarre focus on projects such as the White House ballroom, and a debacle with maintenance work on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool which saw the historic monument clogged up with algae.

Trump's second stint in the White House has also seen ramped up immigration raids across the US, most infamously in Democrat-controlled Minnesota where intensive care nurse Alex Pretti and poet and mum of three Renée Good, both US citizens, were shot dead by ICE agents.
The US midterms have been seen by many as a big test for Trump in his second presidency, and the result sends a clear message that voters have swung massively away from the Republican party.
