Drunk thief trips while stealing statue from church and gets injured by angel’s sword

The statue was uninjured.

A drunk man has impaled himself on a statue of the Archangel Michael while allegedly attempting to steal valuables from a church in Monterrey, Mexico, near the US-Texan border.

Carlos Alonso, 32, was accused of hopping the fence of the Cristo Rey Parish church and smashing a glass door to gain entry into the sacred building, Mexico's national newspaper Milenio reported.

He allegedly attempted to make off with a statue of the Archangel when he tripped and fell onto the very item he was trying to swipe.

Unfortunately for Alonso, the statue of Saint Michael is typically depicted with a sword as he is seen as the spiritual warrior between good and evil.

Alonso's neck struck the sword, impaling him, and it was only thanks to passersby who saw him and his trail of blood that paramedics were called to conduct lifesaving medical treatment.

He was then escorted by police to a nearby hospital.

According to Catholic News Agency, it is expected he will be turned over to the public prosecutor’s office once he has recovered from his injuries.

Saint Michael, however, was unharmed, which is good news for the end of days because we're going to need him, according to the Bible.

According to the book of Daniel, when the end of the world comes he'll return.

The verse reads: "At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people.

"And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time; but at that time your people shall be delivered, every one whose name shall be found written in the book."

Michael is usually shown in artworks and statues as bearing a sword as he vanquishes Satan in combat, so good news the sword wasn't damaged.

Local residents have since dubbed the man's bloody downfall as 'a matter of divine justice'.

Monterrey shop owner Lupita told news outlet ABC Noticias that Alonso deserved his injuries and considered it an act of God.

"That happened to him for doing bad things," she said.

"Saint Michael is for protection, to combat evil, I think that’s why that happened to him."

Yikes.

The church was targeted back in October by another would-be robber who attempted to steal a different statue of an altar boy.

While he wasn't stabbed by an angel, he was apprehended by police after they spotted him lugging the statue a few blocks away from the church, ABC Noticias reported.
