Calling all dog lovers - the DSPCA has officially opened applications for its Shelter Dog Internship Programme!

A doggo fan’s dream job, this unique internship offers the successful candidate the opportunity to gain experience and full training to work in the fast-paced world of dog rescue shelters. It’s not all petting adorable four-legged friends though, as the job listing specifies it is an extremely physical role.

Daily activities will include cleaning kennels, preparing feeds, administering dogs’ medication, walking dogs, basic obedience training and socialising dogs in play groups - sounds pretty dreamy if you’re a fan of canines.

Other curious responsibilities in the role include ‘providing behavioural enrichment & stimulation’ to the dogs and ‘observing canine body language’.

As well as these practical jobs, you would also be instrumental in finding these dogs happy homes to live the rest of their lives as interns are also involved in the allocation of dogs to suitable families, observing both the dog’s and family’s needs.

Even the admin part of the role sounds very pleasant: adding dogs to the website, making calls to potential adopters and managing emails. Lovely jubbly.

You must be over 18 to apply and have transport to and from the shelter every day. If all of the above sounds good, you can learn how to apply by visiting the charity’s official website here – and don’t waste any time if you’re interested as the closing date for applications is next week (February 10th)!
