Morrisons Is Selling Rare Double Yolk Eggs For Easter

Anyone who's ever cracked open an egg to find not one but TWO yolks will know how much joy that brings - up there with pouring out a bowl of cereal and finding a double (or, better still, quadruple) Shreddie, or a Kit Kat that's 100 percent chocolate. Forget your four-leaf clovers, these are life's real lucky omens.

However, you'll also know just how rare double yolks are; most of us have only ever come across such a phenomenon once or twice at most.

In fact, according to Morrisons, there is a one-in-a-thousand chance of finding two yolks in a single egg.

With this in mind, the supermarket has decided to bring the luck to you this Easter by selling boxes of double yolk eggs for just £1.50.

The limited edition eggs, which are being sold in boxes of four, will be available in the run up to Easter in selected stores.

There will only be 1,000 boxes available nationwide, so you'll need to get cracking if you want to get in on the double yolk action.

Double yolk eggs are more likely to be the result of inexperienced hens, which often produce an extra yolk when laying their first batch of eggs.

The Morrisons eggs are being boxed in North Yorkshire, where they are being carefully selected by 'eggsperts' who carefully hold larger eggs up to a special high-powered lamp, in turn revealing the outline of an extra yolk.

These special eggs are then put to one side and boxed up separately, so that you can enjoy a double-yolked breakfast.

Robert Hoffman, egg buyer at Morrisons said: "You know it's a lucky day, when you crack open an egg and find it has two yolks. So we wanted to bring egg-lovers extra luck by offering a four pack of double yolk eggs. We hope they bring customers some good fortune this Easter."

From today Morrison's will be releasing a limited number of the eggs each week to the 11 selected stores in Aldershot, Bradford Enterprise 5, Camden Town, Chingford, Erith, Failsworth, Harrow, Maidstone, Plymstock, Preston Riversway and Redditch.

Sure, buying the double yolk eggs does take out the element of surprise that comes with cracking one open to find two yolks within... but I think I can live without that danger.
