Doctor warns people not to make their beds in the morning for one specific reason

Despite what our mums taught us growing up, a doctor has urged people not to make their beds in the morning for a terrifying reason - and people say they'll 'never sleep again'.

In the viral TikTok video, Dr Sermed Mezher warns against the risks of the morning habit, because even those without a partner are ‘never truly sleeping alone’.

Why? Because our beds are home to 'millions of dust mites that feast on our flesh overnight’.

According to Dr Mezher, they love nothing more than moisture, so when you sweat during the night and inevitably make your bed after waking up, it’s ‘a comfortable environment’ for the pesky critters to not only survive - but reproduce.

Not only is this highly disturbing information, Dr Mehzer warns that dust mites can lead to health problems such as skin rashes and asthma.

“Leaving your bed unmade for 30 minutes will help to thin those lines, although won’t fully get rid of them,” he advises. “Another thing you can do is change your bed sheets every week and at most, every two weeks.”

“You might be surprised to learn that some people wait up to six months to change their bed sheets by which time, you will have released up to 13 gallons of sweat into your bed - so you’re fighting for the wrong team.”

Naturally, this hasn’t gone down well on social media. “I’m never sleeping again,” one person vowed in the comments. Another wrote, “I was laying down watching this and stood up so fast.”

Anyone else feel itchy?

How to get rid of dust mites

According to the NHS, house dust mites are so small that they can’t be seen with the naked eye. They live in all of our homes and feed on the scales of skin we shed. Dust mites thrive in warm, damp areas such as pillows, mattresses, carpets, and clothing. They’re harmless to people but may cause allergic symptoms such as breathing difficulties, asthma, and rashes.

To combat the issue, the NHS recommends the following steps:

  • Reducing dampness in the home by opening windows, drying clothes outside, and regularly airing bedding.
  • Washing bedding at 60 degrees at least every two weeks.
  • Preventing the build-up of dust on household items such as books, ornaments, toys, and shelves.

What’s the best product to kill dust mites?

EcoVenger Bed Bug Killer Spray is one of the most popular products on the market. It’s received thousands of rave reviews on Amazon and over 1,000 bottles have sold in the last month alone.

So, how does it work? The bestselling spray is designed to kill dust mites and bed bugs with some customers saying it has also helped to eliminate scabies.

According to the brand, all you need to do is spray the product onto the mattress and it will eradicate 80 to 90% of bugs within the first hour. It can be used daily and is non-toxic and safe to use around children and pets.

What are people saying about it?

“It worked great. I've used it on bed bugs, roaches, fleas, lice, mites, and spiders,” one five-star review reads. “It kills them all quickly and effectively, and has helped me rid myself of more than one pest problem.”

Another customer agreed, as they wrote: “We spray the bed once a day, and because dust mites are also a problem, we spray our fabric chairs as well. Ta-da! No bedbugs, no more crazy scratching from those pesky mites. I highly recommend this product from having used it daily.”

A third said, “We've had bedbugs in the past and I had to get rid of a lot of furniture because of it. I'm allergic to dust mites but found out that I'm more allergic to bed bugs. I used this product and so far, so good. Will be keeping this product handy. No bugs, no biting and no itching. It's a win-win situation.”

The Ecovenger Bed Bug Killer Spray is now available to buy on Amazon for £22.99.
