British man died whilst getting hair transplant in Turkey

The Brit was visiting the Turkey clinic for a second time

A British man has died in Turkey while going to a clinic for a hair transplant.

Local media reported that Martyn James Latchman had flown out to Istanbul for the procedure, a popular destination for Brits seeking aesthetic treatments.

The 38-year-old has an appointment with private clinic Dr CINIK Hospital in Beşiktaş and was due to undergo surgery on 28 July.

However, the man suffered complications before the procedure even took place and ended up being rushed to hospital where he died. It was initially reported that Latchman fell ill following the procedure but the clinic has since disputed this claim, saying it happened before the surgery began.

He had reportedly visited the clinic last year for a ‘successful’ hair transplant procedure and was returning for a second. On its site, CINIK is described as having ‘transformed the lives of thousands of patients over two decades.’

The clinic has a 4.8-star rating on Google and boasts clients such as Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand.

Latchman was once an assistant headteacher and his LinkedIn lists him as working as a Private Defence Contractor in Northampton. He is said to have been a keen runner as tributes on social media tipped him as a ‘source of inspiration and motivation.’

An investigation has been launched into his sudden death, with reports giving allegations of ‘reckless homicide.’

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dr Cinik said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our patient.

“In July 2024, the patient had previously undergone a successful hair transplant procedure at our clinic, and following his satisfaction with the results, he returned for a second procedure.”

He explained that before that took place, all the ‘necessary medical evaluations and tests’ were ‘carried out thoroughly and without omission.’

This apparently included the likes of blood work, a chest X-ray and ECG.

“These assessments were conducted under the supervision of an anaesthesiologist, and the patient was cleared for surgery,” he continued.

“However, before the hair transplant procedure began and during the preparatory phase, the patient unexpectedly became unwell for reasons that are still unknown.

“Immediate medical intervention was provided, and he was urgently transferred to a fully equipped university hospital.”

And despite ‘ongoing intensive care treatment’, Latchman sadly died later that evening.

The clinic said they have submitted ‘all relevant medical documentation’ related to the incident to authorities, as it added that claims suggesting he died during the procedure ‘are incorrect.’

“The incident occurred before the hair transplant procedure had begun. Due to the ongoing legal process and out of respect for the family's privacy, no further details will be disclosed at this time,” Cinik added.

LADbible contacted the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office for comment.
