Jameela Jamil Responds To Abuse She’s Received Since Quitting Twitter Following Elon Musk Purchase

In a mic drop moment, Jameela Jamil left Twitter on Tuesday, 26 April, after she learned that Elon Musk had got his hands on the platform.

Since leaving the platform, however, Jamil has faced an onslaught of abuse. Check out how she addressed the trolls:

It all started when Musk announced he was buying Twitter, making a comment about wanting more 'free speech' on the platform.

Musk said: "Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.

"I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans.

"Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it."

Jamil took issue with Musk's remarks and suggested that his 'free speech' comments were just a way to help the platform reach its 'final form of lawless hate.'

Taking to the social media site one last time, the actor and presenter shared cute photos with her dog, Barold, and said: "Ah he got twitter. I would like this to be my what lies here as my last tweet. Just really *any* excuse to show pics of Barold. I fear this free speech bid is going to help this hell platform reach its final form of totally lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny."

However, that didn't stop people from coming after her on Instagram.

The star shared a video of her literally sipping tea, writing over the top: "48 hours of men screaming abuse at me for deciding I didn't want to be on Twitter anymore because of hate, misogyny and bigotry. And now finding me on Instagram, following me, and messaging me to tell me they 'dont care' that I left Twitter. ARE MEN OKAY?!"

People were quick to come to her defence, commenting: "The type of time they have is wild!!!"

While another added: "They are absolutely not ok. The idea that their opinion is not wanted or needed EVERYWHERE remains incomprehensible to them."

A third chimed in: "We should have all left Twitter years ago."

Many have, in fact, left Twitter since Musk's announcement, with The Guardian reporting that hundreds of thousands of users have deactivated their accounts.
