Aussie bloke breaks world record after eating 276 chicken wings in 12 minutes

That's one chicken wing every 2.3 seconds.

An Australian competitive food eater has broken a world record after downing hundreds of chicken wings.

James Webb was up against some pretty stiff competition at the Highmark Stadium in New York State at the Wing It On! U.S. Chicken Wing Eating Championship.

He even had to face off against legendary record holder Joey Chestnut.

But he didn't buckle under the pressure and managed to shove a whopping 276 chicken wings into his mouth in just 12 minutes.

Just imagine the most amount of wings you've ever eaten.

We can bet your bottom dollar that it doesn't even come close to that.

When you break it down it becomes even more impressive.

James was able to eat 23 wings a minute or one every 2.6 seconds.

Wings also aren't a food that you can just shove in your gob. The matrix of bone and meat means you have to be skilled in the way you go about it.

“If you told me this yesterday, I would have laughed in your face. I’m so shocked right now," he said after clinching the world record.

“I’m from Australia, man, I just make it up as I go along.

“I was just trying to clean the bones as best as I could. I know that I’m not as fast as [Chestnut and Sudo], but if they weigh leftovers and there’s less chicken, I have a chance. I guess my style works.”

Chestnut came in second to Webb in the competition after eating 240.

He had nothing but congratulations and support for the Aussie.

“I’ve got some bad cleaning habits I guess,” he said.

"This was only my second time eating against James Webb, and the guy is good. He surprised me, I didn’t know how fast he was.”

Webb became the first Australian last year to compete at the annual hotdog eating contest on Coney Island in New York.

He finished third with 41 hotdogs in 10 minutes.

Webb was able to improve on his score earlier this year in July by eating 47 hotdogs.

However, that was well off Joey Chestnut's first place score of 62 hotdogs in the same time frame.

No doubt a healthy rivalry has been born in the US and the next competition will be fierce.
