Johnny Depp Spotted In Newcastle Pub As He Wins Defamation Trial

Johnny Depp was spotted having drinks in a pub in Newcastle as the news of his defamation lawsuit win broke this evening.

In scenes nobody expected, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was seen today (1 June) in a Newcastle pub seemingly enjoying some drinks with Sam Fender as the verdict of his defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard was announced.

Fender took to his Instagram Stories tonight to share a selfie of him and Depp with a group of friends, writing: "Some serious heroes."

Rugby player Gary Spedding also took to Twitter to share a rather blurred shot of Depp shaking hands with a fan in another local pub, writing: "Met Johnny Depp in Bridge Tavern Newcastle just now... that was quite surreal."

While it is currently unknown exactly why he has been spending time in a pub with the Hypersonic Missiles singer, it's likely Depp will certainly be in the mood for celebrating as earlier this evening, the jury reached their verdict after days of deliberation, finding what Amber Heard wrote in her 2018 op-ed piece for The Washington Post was defamatory against the actor.

Depp was awarded $15 million while Heard, despite losing her case, was awarded $2 million by the jury.

Heard was in attendance at the court in Virginia as the verdict was read out, while Depp was clearly watching from the UK, where he has been appearing at a number of concerts during Jeff Beck's tour in Sheffield and London.

Depp sued Heard for $50 million (£38.2 million) in a defamation lawsuit over domestic abuse claims she made in her article in and she issued a counterclaim for $100m (£76.4m).

While the article did not mention Depp by name, his lawyers argued it falsely implied he physically and sexually abused the Aquaman actor while they were together.

The jury has ruled today that two of Heard's defamation claims against Depp were not fully proven.
