Celeste Barber has opened about the little hobby that has turned her into an international sensation.

The social media influencer has racked up more than eight million followers on her Instagram account.

A lot of those users were probably introduced to the Aussie icon by seeing one of her many hilarious parodies of celebrities.

She regularly does a civilian's interpretation of an A-lister's or model's photos on social media and the results are always brilliant.

Celeste has finally revealed what made her start this venture during an interview on the ABC's 7:30 programme.

"I got sick of seeing so many heavily curated, heavily filtered and altered images passed off as everyday," she said.

"I mean the main purpose why I did it is just to make people laugh. That was it. I'm a comedian and an actor and that was my goal.

"And I wanted to cut through and I wanted to be kind of seen, I wanted to show people that I am funny.

"And there was a platform there that would get me hopefully international eyes as well. So that was, you know, a big driving force.

"But I remember when I was just looking at these images thinking 'this isn't good, this isn't okay that it's being passed off as normal'.

"That's not what people look like. And I think it's really, really, important for us to see ourselves because when you don't, you think you don't matter."

She has certainly used her platform for good and managed to raise tens of millions of dollars last year for the Black Summer bushfire appeal.

Even though she takes though she takes the mick out of celebrities all around the world, it seems like some of them find the funny side.

Irina Shayk certainly didn't mind it when Celeste Barber copied one of her bikini poses.

Shayk is one of Barber's favourites to impersonate and the supermodel always seems to love the parody pictures.

In a recent one, Irina posted with her arm leaning against a wall, glass of wine in hand, a pair of thigh high leather boots and, of course, she's also sporting a luminous green bikini.

In an attempt to copy the picture, Celeste managed to dig out a turquoise bikini, whacked on a pair of black boots and grabbed the all important glass of vino.

The comedian captioned the post 'Mum's on the wines again' and Irina showed her appreciation with three fire emojis.
