Vegemite Is Launching Flavoured Baked Beans

Vegemite Is Launching Flavoured Baked Beans

The Aussie spread is attempting an ambitious crossover and it's received a mixed reaction.

Vegemite is attempting the most disgustingly ambitious crossover by teaming up with SPC for flavoured beans.

Why? Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

The iconic Australian brand, which by all intents and purposes tastes great slabbed on a piece of white toast, is branching out to combine two Aussie breakfast (or dinner) favourites.

The cheesy tomato sauce covered beans will get an injection of the fair-dinkum spread, in what is admittedly probably the most Australian thing ever.

In a statement, SPC Marketing Manager George Dimkin said: “Teaming up with Vegemite to create the most Australian canned product out there is an exciting milestone in SPC’s long and proud Aussie heritage.

“We’re expanding the variety of baked beans available which is sure to give Aussies a reason to fall in love with baked beans all over again.

“Whilst we’re drawing upon the iconic taste of Vegemite, that classic rich SPC flavour stays true blue, all the way through, creating the ideal Aussie combination which can be enjoyed at breakfast, lunch or tea.”

Immediate thoughts are that this is a horrible idea that hasn’t been completely thought through, however, Vegemite seems to have a valid reason behind the ungodly concoction.

Vegemite Marketing Manager, Jacqui Roth said: “We know that Aussies love eating Vegemite with baked beans on toast, so it was a no brainer to partner with SPC on this exciting new product.

“Now Aussies can get their much-loved Vegemite baked beans hit in a convenient can. Just heat them up and eat for the perfect wholesome snack. We can’t wait to see how Aussies respond to this flavour match made in heaven.”

I mean, sure Australians do love their Vegemite on toast and baked beans, but I wouldn’t go as far as calling it a ‘flavour match made in heaven’.

If anything the devil is beaming with happiness from the depths of hell.

Of course, the reaction hasn’t been too favourable online.

One Twitter user said: “Vegemite and ‘rich tomato baked beans’? Even as an Aussie, F**K NO.”

Another tweeted: “God damn, I love vegemite but vegemite baked beans, no just no.”

Vegemite has been steadfast in the past in attempting to break out of their spread cage by providing recipes for meals such as a Parmigiana, Nachos, and Dumplings to incorporate the Aussie spread.

However, this time they’ve gone too far.

Of course, I’m going to try it. It would be un-Australian not to.
