The actor's career spanned over four decades, first taking off when Liotta took on the role of Ray Sinclair in 1986 film Something Wild.

His role in the film saw him nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes.

Liotta has become best known for playing the character of Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas, however he also starred in Field of Dreams and Cop Land.

In more recent years, Liotta took to the screen in Marriage Story (2019), No Sudden Move (2021) and The Many Saints of Newark (2021).

Liotta's The Many Saints of Newark, co-star Alessandro Nivola, took to Twitter to pay his respects to the actor.

Fellow Goodfellas actor, Lorraine Bracco, tweeted that she is 'utterly shattered' by the news of Liotta's passing.

Despite being best known for his roles in film, Liotta also appeared in television series such as Black Bird.

He starred in the Apple TV+ series alongside actor Taron Egerton.

Since news of Liotta's passing broke, Egerton has also taken to social media to state how much he will 'miss' the star and to reflect on when he first met Liotta.

In Black Bird, Liotta took on the role of Egerton's father.

He told Egerton he had made it 'easy to love [his] son' when the Kingsman actor texted him after seeing the show for the first time to reflect on how 'beautiful' his performance was.

Prior to his passing Liotta was engaged to marry Jacy Nittolo.

Fans of the actor have flooded to Nittolo's latest Instagram post to offer their condolences.

One wrote: "My deepest condolences to you on Ray’s sad sudden loss. May your memories be cherished always, rest in love Ray."

"Just heard about Ray - so very sorry for your loss! Can’t fathom he’s gone!" another said.

A third commented: "So sorry for your loss. He was amazing."

Another fan of the star took to Twitter to re-share one of Liotta's most iconic scenes which another called, 'One of the greatest scenes in movie history'.

Liotta not only leaves behind his fiancee, but also his daughter Karsen from his previous marriage to fellow actor Michelle Grace.
