But what do we know about Liz Truss’ life outside of politics? Read on to find out more about her family life, including her husband, children and siblings…

Is Liz Truss married? Who is her husband?

Lizz Truss has been married to her husband Hugh O’Leary for 22 years, with the pair thought to have met at a Tory Party conference in 1997.

She tends to keep their relationship private, however she did mention their first date in a 2019 interview with You magazine, where she said: “I invited him ice-skating and he sprained his ankle”.

Her husband is an accountant by trade, but he did once attempt to get into politics himself, having unsuccessfully tried to stand as a Tory candidate in local elections in 2002.

In the same interview, Liz referred to herself as “really happily married.”

Does Liz Truss have any children?

Liz Truss and her husband have two daughters together: 16-year-old Frances and 13-year-old Liberty.

Not much is known about the two girls as their parents prefer to keep them out of the spotlight but, according to The Guardian, they’re looking forward to having sleepovers with friends once the family moves into Downing Street.

In a 2019 interview, Liz also said that her youngest daughter Liberty is a fan of giving her mum fashion advice.

“She’s very into the idea of a pop of colour,” Liz said. “She shops at places such as New Look and River Island, so she introduces me to places I wouldn’t think of much.”

When she gets her outfit choices “wrong” Liz said her daughter is “quite restrained actually, but she does indicate that perhaps I should not leave the house in that outfit”.

Does Liz Truss have any siblings?

Liz has previously revealed that she is the elder sister to three brothers.

Speaking about her upbringing, she’s said: “I quite often felt that with having three brothers, there were assumptions made about me that weren’t made about them… I don’t think women are better, I just think everyone should have an equal chance and I resent being typecast.”
