Man forgets wife after toilet break on road trip and she's forced to walk 12 miles to find him

Undoubtedly, this oblivious man will be doing the dishes for the rest of his life to make up for this one.

There's winding up in the proverbial doghouse, and then there's this.

A man in Thailand has found himself in some serious hot water with his wife after he accidentally abandoned her midway through a Christmas Day road trip, resulting in her walking 12 miles to find him.

Yikes.

According to Thai news site Matichon, Boontom Chaimoon, 55, and his wife, Amnuay Chaimoon, 49, were driving through the night to spend some time in her hometown in the province of Maha Sarakham.

All was rosy until about 3am, when Boontom decided to pull over to relieve himself.

Amnuay asked her husband why he hadn't stopped at a petrol station they had recently passed.

When he didn't answer, she decided to seize the chance of a toilet break and hopped out.

She ducked into the jungle to pee, but when she ventured back out onto the road Amnuay was stunned to see the roadside empty.

The car and her husband were both gone and she'd been left her alone on a rural roadside in the middle of the night.

With no money or phone - naturally, she'd left them in the car while she ducked out for a wee - the 49-year-old had no choice but to start the trek back to civilisation on foot.

The poor woman walked almost 12 and a half miles before eventually she reached the district of Kabin Buri by about 5am.

Local police tried to help her get in touch with her oblivious husband but - to add insult to injury - that proved to be a near-impossible task.

She couldn't remember his mobile number, so police called her phone... at least 20 times. Boontom, absentminded as ever, did not answer.

Finally, by 8am, police made contact with her husband and he sheepishly turned around.

According to Thai news site Daily News, by that time Boontom had already hoofed it 160 kilometres up the road.

The province of Kubin Buri, where he drove to, and their final destination.

Apparently, he thought his wife had been asleep in the backseat the entire time.

He returned to Kabin Buri as quickly as he could and - we assume - with his tail tucked well and truly between his legs.

Thai media report that he apologised profusely to his wife and was extremely sorry and she hopped back in the car without argument.

Before the two hit the road once again, Amnuay told local police the couple had been married for 27 years and have a son who is 26 years old.

Hopefully they're still married after that martial mess-up. Either way, he's been brutally mocked on social media.

One Facebook user said: "Now he wont forget the trip for rest of his life."

A second added: "That's his last pee of his life."

While a third commented: "It's time to rethink your marriage...or rather who you married."

Well, he'll never live that one down.
