A man who is 11 weeks deep into his attempt to enter a bodybuilding competition by taking steroids and consuming 24 drinks a day has been giving daily updates on his progress.

Last year, Peter Mossfield made a bet that he could get addicted to alcohol and then quit, a wager that made him a good chunk of money as several people took the $5,000 gamble against him and lost.

Looking for his next thing to do, he decided to make a new bet where he'd get into the best shape possible while quaffing 24 drinks a day, and he initially thought he'd drink and exercise.

However, he didn't want to do the exercise and someone told him he could just try steroids instead, so Peter, who runs the Instagram account BoozeBagFitness, started on his steroids and has been showing off the daily progress.

'I’m on the way to greatness'

Peter told LADbible he feels 'great', and like he's now got 'the body and the physical presence to match who I actually am'.

"I know everyone says the gear will make me irritable, but it’s more like having a chip on my shoulder knowing I’m on the way to greatness and not having time to listen to a word of negativity from anyone questioning me or hating on me as I get there," he explained, though there were some downsides to what he was doing.

"Sleep is bad and I’ve been cramping a lot, but nothing another supplement or IV can’t fix in my opinion.

"Really proud of what my body’s been able to take."

He's putting a lot of faith in supplements and IVs, and has been relying on steroids in order to get his leaner and more muscular physique.

In today's update, Peter declared that while he's not saying 'no more beers' he's switched his drink of choice to diet coke and vodka, while he reckons his steroid intake is going to be boosted so he'll 'get really shredded' without lifting weights.

He also explained that since he'd started doing this his weight had increased from 191lbs to 208lbs, but that might change as he's started 'the cut' where he'll be eating some eggs and having his drinks mixed with protein powders, and that's about it.

Right now he's about halfway to the starting point of the bodybuilding competition he's planning to enter, so he's still got a long way to go before he shows up there.

While there's been a lot of concern for his health over his lifestyle and reliance on steroids coupled with no exercise to get his body shape, Peter's been clear that he likes the way he feels.

Impact of steroids on the body

Dr Kathryn Basford at Asda Online Doctor told LADbible: “Anabolic steroids are often used to build muscle and enhance performance, but they can be dangerous if used incorrectly or without medical advice. This is because regularly taking anabolic steroids can lead to both physical and psychological changes, as well as certain dangerous medical conditions.

“For men, side effects of anabolic steroids can include infertility, erectile dysfunction, hair loss, and increased risk of testicular cancer. For women, they can cause problems with periods, hair loss, and excess growth of facial and body hair.

“Both men and women who misuse anabolic steroids are more at risk of developing serious medical conditions like heart attack or stroke, liver or kidney problems, high blood pressure, deep vein thrombosis, and high cholesterol. Psychologically, misusing steroids can lead to aggressive behaviour, mood swings, paranoia, and even hallucinations.

“It is generally recommended to avoid consuming alcohol while taking anabolic steroids as this can significantly increase the risk of serious health conditions like liver damage, hepatitis, fibrosis, or even liver failure.”

'Both substances can damage the heart and liver'

“Repeated misuse of steroids and alcohol can lead to a number of harmful effects on the body, increasing the risk of cirrhosis, tumours, heart attack and stroke, and pancreatitis. This is because alcohol can significantly compound side effects of steroid misuse; both substances can damage the heart and liver, so combining heavy alcohol with steroids significantly increases these risks. If you have been prescribed steroid medication, it’s best to speak with your doctor first about whether you should drink any alcohol,” Dr Basford added.

“While the use of anabolic steroids can increase muscle mass, the result is not the same as a trained physique from exercise and resistance training. Steroids can cause fluid retention, potentially making muscles appear bloated or soft. Muscle gained without training is usually unsustainable if the drug use is stopped.

“Anabolic steroids can be addictive, and withdrawal symptoms often include depression or anxiety, insomnia, anorexia, headaches, fatigue, and muscle and joint pain. You should see a doctor if you feel you are addicted to steroids, and they will provide a treatment plan.

“Anabolic steroids are prescription-only medicines, and can only be issued by a doctor or pharmacist. In the US, they are illegal to use or possess without a valid prescription, and it is also illegal to sell or share them.”
