Mason Greenwood has been arrested following assault allegations made against the Manchester United footballer earlier today, police have confirmed.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: "Greater Manchester Police were made aware earlier today (Sunday 30 January) of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

"An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

"He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing."

Greenwood, 20, is originally from Bradford and made his debut with Manchester United in 2019.

In the wake of the allegations, the club confirmed that the striker had been suspended and would not return to training or take part in any matches 'until further notice'.
