Mike Tyson's openly honest admission about why he had extra year added to his prison sentence

Mike Tyson's openly honest admission about why he had extra year added to his prison sentence

Mike Tyson has admitted it in his latest Hotboxin' podcast

Boxing legend Mike Tyson has opened up about his time in prison in the 90s and why he got an extra year added to his initial sentence. Watch the former champ reveal what happened in jail:

Tyson was jailed in 1992 after being found guilty of rape, he was sentenced to six years in prison and four years of probation. The boxer has always denied the crime.

However, 'Iron Mike' was released in 1995, serving just three years of his sentence.

In his latest Hotboxin' podcast, Tyson revealed that he was initially given an extra year at the Plainfield Correctional Facility and explained why this happened.

He said: "I got an extra year. When I first came there, I was mad at everybody, I didn't know they all wanted to show me love, so I'm fighting the guards and stuff but then the guards were telling me how to move.

Mike Tyson was added a year to his sentence for attacking guards.

"So, now I'm the man, I am getting food, got women, I am the man in prison."

The former heavyweight champion continued: "But then the guard that was working for me goes like, 'Listen champ, remember when you first came here?'.

"You had those problems, we had to give you a year. I said 'oh f****ng s*** how could they do this s***?' I gave them my money and they gave me another year?

"So I had to go on programmes that I could never pass, spelling and stuff."

Mike Tyson's boxing career did not stop when he was jailed, with his successful career resuming after he was released.

The boxer won his first four fights after being released and was ultimately crowned heavyweight champion once again.

After a string of losses, including a world title fight against Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson announced his retirement from the sport in 2005.

He has since had exhibition fights though, including one against former American boxer Roy Jones Jr in 2020 which ended in a draw.

Recent pictures of Tyson have worried boxing fans as he was pictured leaving Miami International Airport earlier this month in a wheelchair.

This came after 'Iron Mike' said his 'expiration date' was coming soon on his Hotboxin' podcast.

Tyson's podcast has been full of revelations as he has also said he spends a whopping $40,000 ($33,000) on weed every month.

In conversation with former NFL player Eben Britton, Tyson revealed he smokes at his ranch in Southern California, where it is legal.

The former heavyweight champion has been in trouble due to drugs before, he was even jailed for 24 hours in 2007 after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine and driving under the influence.
