MrBeast says it shouldn't take a YouTuber to cure 1,000 people's blindness

He's called on governments around the world to step up and pay for the life-changing procedure.

MrBeast has called on governments around the world to 'step in' and do more for curable blindness.

The YouTuber, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, released a new video on his channel recently that literally gave people the gift of sight.

The 24-year-old said in the clip that while blindness is permanent for some people, for others it can be cured by a simple, 10-minute procedure.

So, he got 1,000 people together who were eligible for the operation and allowed them to see again.

He said: "If you're wondering how the surgery allows people to see again, it's because the lens in their eyes is so cloudy that they can't see through it.

"So the surgeon uses a tiny vacuum to suck up the clouded lens. And replace it with an artificial one. The surgery is that simple! They can see again."

This resulted in some truly incredible scenes as people had their sight restored in the video.

One recipient of the YouTuber's kindness looked down at his wrist to see his watch and explained that he'd never been able to see it before.

However, Donaldson isn't happy with the idea that it took a content creator to give these people their vision back.

He wrote on Twitter: "I don’t understand why curable blindness is a thing.

"Why don’t governments step in and help?

"Even if you’re thinking purely from a financial standpoint it’s hard to see how they don’t ROI on taxes from people being able to work again."

More than 52 million people have seen his video about curing blindness since it was uploaded this week.

MrBeast himself was surprised at the reaction and said he 'did not expect this video to do this well'.

But thankfully for him, it will be a good return on investment as the video was estimated to cost him a fortune.

According to one person who did some serious research, the cost of curing 1,000 people's blindness ultimately depends 'on several factors such as location, type of procedure, insurance coverage and surgeon experience'.

However, 'assuming an average cost of $5,000 (£4,000) per eye, the cost of curing 1,000 people's blindness would be $5 million (£4 mil)'.

Although the post continues: "This estimate is rough and can vary greatly depending on the specific circumstances of each patient.

"It is best to consult with healthcare providers and insurance companies for more accurate cost estimates."
