The plane that mysteriously went missing over the eastern Mediterranean soon after entering Egyptian airspace has reportedly been found crashed off the Greek island of Karpathos.

The EgyptAir flight between Paris and Cairo is said to have sent a distress signal before disappearing completely from radar.

There were 56 passengers, including three children, seven crew members and three security personnel aboard Flight MS804, the airline said. Thirty Egyptians, 15 French citizens, one Brit, two Iraqis and people from Canada, Belgium, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Sudan, Chad and Portugal are now missing, according to the BBC.

And now, according to Agence France Press, the flight has now been found.

The flight left Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport at 23.09 on Wednesday and was due to arrive at 03.00 Egyptian time on Thursday. The Airbus A320 was cruising at 37,000ft when contact was lost around fifteen minutes before it was due to land.

Egyptian armed forces began a search operation and were joined by the Greek authorities while Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail has joined the families at Cairo airport, according to reports.

A Mediterranean ship captain reportedly said in The Telegraph he saw 'a flame in the sky'.

The airline has been updating everyone on the situation via their Twitter account.
