Caterer Arrested After Devastated Bride Discovers Wedding Cake Is Made From Polystyrene

Weddings and holidays are very similar, in that you want yours to go perfectly, but you secretly quite enjoy hearing about the ones that go nightmarishly wrong.

Catering is one of the main areas that can make or break a wedding, or a holiday for that matter; fancy paying for all inclusive and all they do is serve up the same shitty wet salad three times a day (Turkey, 2013).

But this is nothing by comparison to the ordeal endured by a bride in the Philippines, who cut into her wedding cake only to find it was made from polystyrene.

Shine Tamayo and her partner Jhon Chen paid a wedding planner 140,000 pesos (£2,100) to supply all the food and decorations for their ceremony in Pasig City on 3 December.

The ceremony at the church went well, with the day looking set to be the fairy-tale event of their dreams. However, upon arriving at a hotel for their reception, they found the company had not supplied food for their guests.

The special day started out well for Shine Tamayo and John Chen.

Determined not to let the giant setback derail their day, they ordered shitloads of noodles from a nearby restaurant and carried them in trays to the reception. Problem solved.

As guests sipped on cups of blackcurrant juice, all eyes were on Shine and Jhon as they went to cut their wedding cake. However, as the blade sliced through the icing, a polystyrene and foam filling was revealed.

At this point, the 26-year-old bride broke down in tears in front of her family and friends.

The caterer was subsequently arrested on suspicion of fraud and police inspected the cake, which they confirmed was made from foam.

That is not a tasty looking filling.

A spokesman from Pasig City Police Station said: ''The investigation into the wedding fraud is ongoing. The bride was very distressed by her cake and the food.

''We have confirmed that a large amount of money was paid for the service which was not delivered adequately. The provider, Miss Krissa Cananea, has been interviewed and we intend to take the case to a trial.''

Shine says the caterer needs to do time for ruining her special day.

She said: ''The woman we paid to do the food has ruined my wedding. She's a liar. She always asked me for money and I always gave her what she needs because I wanted my wedding to be perfect.

''I will not accept sorry from her, an apology is not good enough, she needs to go to jail because she ruined my wedding.

''I have never been so humiliated in all my life. This was supposed to be one of my most treasured memories for my entire life. Instead it is the worst.''

The day had started out so promisingly for the couple.

And to think she would have got away with it had the couple not cut the cake, which obviously they were always going to.

... Also, the whole not supplying any food thing wasn't exactly the most covert form of fraud for a caterer.
