A British man is facing 36 months in prison after being caught at Brussels Airport, trying to smuggle cocaine into Belgium by hiding it in an artificialpenis.

The man had been arrested on 8 February, having travelled to Brussels from Jamaica.

He tested positive for cocaine, and subsequently was taken to the University hospital of Jette in Brussels for further investigation.

Het Nieuwsblad reports that, once there, doctors and police officers determined the man had 'equipped himself with an artificial penis' and had hidden an amount of white powder inside - which turned out to be 127g of cocaine.

The man stated he had been visiting his mother in Jamaica, and that while he was there an acquaintance offered him cocaine.

He claimed he decided to take it with him so that he could take it himself, once home.

According to Het Nieuwsblad, the public prosecutor's office could not confirm that the man had acted on behalf of a drug gang, but on Friday it demanded a 36-month prison sentence.

His defence reportedly asked to suspend the sentence as the man had health problems, with his lawyer - from the UK - arguing: "My client has kidney failure and needs to exercise as well as follow a proper diet.

"Both fail in our prisons, so I ask for a suspended sentence."

The man is set to be sentenced on 24 June.

Of course, he wasn't the first person to try and get a bit, er, creative when transporting drugs.

Let's not forget that one guy was recently caught with with £27,00 worth of cocaine stashed under a pretty suspicious bulging wig.

The Colombian man, who was travelling from Bogota to Barcelona, was stopped by Spanish police when they noticed him looking nervous after his flight had landed, attracting the attention of the authorities.

On closer inspection, the police noticed that he had a package stuck to his head that contained around €30,000 (£27,000) of cocaine.

He had perched the toupee over the package and put it under his hat in an attempt to disguise the drugs, but sadly it wasn't quite enough to do the trick.
