Marvel Comics has announced its new Alien series will launch in March 2021.

It announced that it had obtained the rights to publish comics on the Alien franchise, after Disnet acquired 20th Century Fox.

The synopsis says: "The new story will feature a Weyland-Yutani mercenary named Gabriel Cruz as he battles a deadly new breed of xenomorph with the survival of his child hanging in the balance.

"No stranger to infusing horror with the classic Marvel storytelling, Phillip Kennedy Johnson most recently shocked readers in the terrifying Marvel Zombies: Resurrection series."

Marvel Comics also acquired the rights to the Predator franchise, which was also announced back in July.

Marvel, who acquired the rights from Dark Horse Comics, will now be in charge of paving the way for further comic book stories.

Dark Horse

However, there have been no official comic titles or creative teams announced for the new Alien and Predator universes just yet.

David Finch, an acclaimed artist who was worked on some of Marvel and DC's biggest titles, told IGN: "Alien and Predator are the two of the most identifiable, iconic characters of all time, and I love them for that. But mostly, it's being fortunate enough to be a kid when they were new.

"I've seen every movie they've ever been in, and I cannot wait to see them wreaking havoc in the Marvel Universe."

Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski in a statement to IGN: "There's nothing more thrilling than a story that will keep you at the edge of your seat, and Alien and Predator have delivered that time and time again!

20th Century Fox

"I can clearly remember where I was when I saw each of these modern masterpieces for the first time, and revelling in how both masterfully weave extraterrestrial dread and drama into some of the most iconic scenes we've ever seen on film.

"And it's that legacy that we're going to live up to!

"As a visual medium, comics are the perfect place to build on those moments, and we here at Marvel are honoured to begin telling these stories for fans everywhere.

"As our release schedule continues to return, we can't wait to share more in the coming months!"
