A news anchor in America was arrested after being found passed out and naked in her car, having since been off air for several weeks.

Feven Kiflegiorgis - who goes by the name of Feven Kay - is a morning weekday anchor and reporter for Fox 5 Las Vegas.

She was found nude and asleep behind the wheel of her car at around 7.30am on 20 March, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The new outlet reports that Kay told police she didn't remember how she got to the travel lane on Matthew Avenue, where she was found, and stumbled out of her car.

Police reported a distinct smell of alcohol coming from Kay, but she reportedly declined to submit her blood for tests.

She was arrested for driving under the influence, but later had the charge reduced to 'misdemeanour reckless driving'.

Kay did not appear on air for 'a few weeks', but has since addressed the issue via Fox 5, saying in a televised statement that she had been dealing with a 'private matter' at the time.

She also said she would be paying a fine and would 'take classes', as she hoped to 'continue learning' from the incident.

Kay said: "Many of you have noticed I've been off air for a few weeks.

"To all of you who have reached out, a sincere thank you for your concern.

"I was dealing with a private matter, but I want to take this time to be transparent."

She continued: "Last month, I was arrested by Metro for driving under the influence. At the time of the arrest, I was inside of a parked vehicle in a Las Vegas neighbourhood, alone.

"That charge has since been reduced to misdemeanour reckless driving, for which I will pay a fine and take classes.

"As I move forward, I want you to know I have learned from this and I will continue learning.

"And I truly thank you for your support."

Regardless of the offence, many of Key's fans were happy to see she had returned to their screens, and welcomed her back on social media.

One person tweeted: "Yay, your back!!! Missed you on air every weekday morning before I begin my film editing workday. Much love and respect."

Someone else wrote: "@Feven_Kay, it is FANTASTIC to see you back!"

A third said: "@Feven_Kay you were missed. WELCOME BACK!"
