Viewers who tuned into KREM 2 news station in Spokane, Washington, were given a shock during a weather forecast at around 6.30pm on Sunday (17 October).

As meteorologist Michelle Boss told viewers that the nice weather 'can't last forever' a video of a woman's rear appeared over her shoulder.

The explicit images were on air for around 10 seconds, and neither the anchor or Boss acknowledged them.

However, Spokane Police said they received numerous calls about the blunder and are now investigating the incident.

In a statement issued on Monday, the force said: "The Spokane Police Department Special Victims Unit responded to a local news outlet Sunday evening after a disturbing image/video appeared on the screens of viewers during the station's weather report.

"Around 6.30pm on Sunday SPD began to receive calls regarding what was described as a pornographic or explicit image appearing during a television weather forecast.

"It was a short video segment, generally described as a small portion of the screen, showing a separate image from the newscast of what appeared to be a possibly pornographic or explicit image. Estimates were the image/video lasted about 10 seconds."

The statement continued: "The Spokane Police Department's Special Victims Unit (SVU) and Technical Assistance Response Unit (TARU), responded to the local station to conduct an investigation as to how the image appeared and where it came from.

"The station's personnel are cooperating fully with SPD in the attempt to determine what happened.

"The incident generated numerous calls from concerned citizens in the city and county. At the time of this release, the investigation is ongoing and no culpability of any kind has been determined."

Imagine calling the police after seeing 10 seconds of porn during the weather report. Beggars belief, honestly.

But while the gaffe presumably amused most viewers, the station itself could face large fines from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for airing indecent programming when children could be watching.

Anne Bentley, vice president and chief communications officer at TEGNA - KREM 2's parent company - said the team are working hard to ensure they never stick an a**e on the news again.

In a statement shared with local paper The Spokesman-Review on Monday (18 October), she said: "We apologized to our viewers last night during our 11pm newscast - Those of us here at KREM 2 want to apologize for something that happened in our 6pm newscast tonight.

"An inappropriate video aired in the first part of the show.

"We are diligently working to make sure something like this doesn't happen again."
