A suspected cannibal has been arrested in Russia after he killed a 27-year-old mother of two before cooking and eating her heart, police have confirmed.
Alexey Yastrebov, 35, is in custody in the city of Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, after he allegedly stabbed Ekaterina Nikiforova in the neck and cut out her Adam's apple with a kitchen knife.

According to local authorities, Yastrebov then cut out Nikiforova's heart and left lung before cooking them on the stove in his rented apartment.
He is then said to have phoned the owner of the flat, Zhanna Avdeeva, and told her: "Call the police and ambulance. I'm lying in the blood, next to me is a corpse."
Yastrebov is said to have made a full confession to paramedics and police when they arrived on the scene, finding the mutilated body of Nikiforova who was a single mother of two young daughters.

Before calling Avdeeva, the suspected killer tried and failed to kill himself by plunging scissors into his neck. He is now in intensive care under police guard.
"This poor woman was lying in the same room," said Avdeeva, the owner of the flat. "As well as her chest cut open, her neck was slashed.
"He had cut out her Adam's apple. I couldn't look at all this."
Evgeny Avdeev, 31, Zhanna's brother, said Yastrebov was a close friend, and he could never imagine he could do something so 'evil' as the killing.

"My hair is standing on end," he said. "I think they must have been drinking and some conflict happened."
Police are now determining whether intoxication by drugs had any part to play in the incident.
Avdeeva said the killing was so traumatising that she planned to call a priest to 'cleanse' the flat.
"It's such a shock to me, in my apartment," she said. "It's like a nightmare. Everyone will know about this, all the neighbours. How will I go on?

"I will invite a priest to say prayers here after the discovery of this corpse."
The shocking killing comes just a few months after a cannibal couple were arrested in Russia after they allegedly killed and ate up to 30 people.
Natalia Baksheeva and Dmitry Baksheev confessed to murdering waitress Elena Vashrusheva after Natalia accused her of trying to seduce Baksheev.

The pair initially confessed that they had killed and eaten at least 30 people before they retracted their confession and denied any acts of cannibalism.
