Winter's Come Early As Parts Of The UK Get Heavy Snow Fall

County Durham has woken up to a blanket of snow

Forget Game of Thrones saying 'Winter is coming' winter is officially here as parts of the North East woke up to a pristine blanket of snow.

Britain was forecast a 'White Halloween' weekend and it didn't disappoint as people in Country Durham had to battle a winter wonderland in October - this is the first settling snowfall of the season, all before the clocks are due to go back on Sunday 28 October.

Parts of the UK were predicted 4cm of snow, whereas the Scottish highlands were predicted up to 10cm - apparently parts of England didn't get the memo as some parts of the North East have had quite a dense amount of snowfall.

This icy blast is said to come because cold air from the Arctic has blown its way down to the unsuspecting residents of the UK and has left people saying that autumn has been 'hijacked'.

People have mixed opinions of winter 'hijacking' autumn, some have said, and taken to social media to post their festive photos.

One person tweeted: "Beautiful scenes from #CountyDurham U.K. this morning with first settling snowfall of the season."

Another person was less impressed with the weather as they commented: "Don't remember inviting you! #uksnow" along with a video clip of the snowfall.

It certainly looks like we've entered 'big coat' weather as this is the lowest temperatures we've had since the 'Beat from the East' hit Britain back in early 2018.

It's not just the north, this cold weather is heading southwards, even with the news an easterly wind is heading towards u - reports of light snowfall in Leeds have even been reported on Twitter.

The Met Office predict that the snow showers will flick between hail and rain - not just snow, if we're lucky - as the week goes on. However, there is still a chance of other places in the UK getting that winter wonderland feeling earlier than expected. Even cities are expected to have low temperatures below 0C.

But as always we can always rely on the postal workers to brave it through the harsher weather as one was even spotted in County Durham carrying out his deliveries in shorts - brave guy.
