Noel Gallagher Reckons Harry Styles Isn't Working As Hard As 'Real Musicians'

Noel Gallagher Reckons Harry Styles Isn't Working As Hard As 'Real Musicians'

The former Oasis man has taken aim at the star's reality TV past, claiming anything to come from X-Factor has 'nothing to do with music'.

Noel Gallagher is at it again criticising modern artists and this time he's taken aim at Harry Styles.

The singer and former One Directioner recently dropped his first song in two years, ‘As It Was’, and it seems Gallagher wasn’t a fan of Styles’ work rate.

In a new interview for Absolute Radio's Through The Decades podcast, the ex-Oasis member criticised Harry Styles and former X Factor stars.

He said: “The X Factor is a TV show, it’s got nothing to do with music, it’s got nothing to do with music whatsoever, and anything that has come from that, that’s got nothing to do with music.”

Strong comments from the guitarist, who seems to be intent on gatekeeping the entire realm of music.

I mean the likes of 1D, Little Mix, Olly Murs, and Leona Lewis have done quite well for themselves in the world of music, for people that have nothing to do with music.

Harry Styles currently sits at #68 in the world for the most streamed Spotify artist according to Chart Masters, while Spotify revealed that ‘As It Wasbroke the record for the most-streamed song in the United States in a single day.

But apparently, that’s not good enough for Gallagher.

He went on to argue that Styles wasn’t working as hard as ‘real’ musicians.

“You’re not telling me Harry Styles is currently in a room somewhere writing a song," he said.

“With any joy, he’ll be surrounded by a lot of girls. I can assure you he’s not got an acoustic guitar out trying to write a middle eight for something.”

Rolling Stone hit back at Gallagher’s comments, claiming Styles took it a bit further than using an acoustic guitar.

While putting together his Fine Line album, he had tracked down Joellen Lapidus, the woman who built the dulcimer for Joni

Mitchell’s 1971 album Blue, and had her give him a lesson on the instrument for the song ‘Canyon Moon.

It isn’t the first time Gallagher has had an issue with Styles’ dedication to his craft.

Back in 2017, he told Absolute Radio: “People of my age have let themselves go, they’re fat, balding idiots with fading tattoos. They sit in their garage and write shite like ‘Sign of the Times’ for Harry Styles.

“Which, quite frankly, my cat could have written in about 10 minutes!”

Despite Gallagher's criticisms, Styles has been credited as a songwriter on every release of his two solo albums to date.
