Fans Spark Outrage After They Start Selling 'Tone-Deaf' Depp-Heard Trial Merchandise

Johnny Depp’s $50m defamation suit against Amber Heard will continue today (25 April) in Fairfax, Virginia.

The trial has dominated headlines and social media since it kicked off on 11 April and is now making a dent on the merchandise sphere, much to the dismay of many.

Mugs, t-shirts and even blankets emblazoned with mainly pro-Depp sentiments have popped up online, and some items have already racked up more than 100 reviews.

The Independent notes that a quick search for ‘Johnny Depp trial’ on Redbubble returns more than 100 results, including ‘Justice for Johnny’ and ‘F**k Amber’ t-shirts that are available in different styles and colours.

Elsewhere, a ‘team Johnny Depp’ t-shirt can be bought on CoolPopTees, while Urban Dictionary’s questionable Amber Heard mug has racked up 180 reviews and comes in nine colours.

Quite rightly, fans have taken to social media to express their outrage over the cheap cash-in, with one person writing: “Something about people making literal merch pertaining to Amber Heard vs Johnny Depp is very very VERY uncomfy to me.” [sic]

Another echoed: “Not merch creators making shirts out of the things Johnny Depp has said during this trial… that’s icky.”

A third person queried: “Why are ppl making merch about Johnny Depp’s court case?” while a fifth added: “Am I the only one who finds it a bit weird that people are making merch of the Johnny Depp trial?”

LADbible has approached Redbubble, CoolPopTees and Urban Dictionary for comment.

Taking to the stand last week, Depp was made to watch video footage of himself smashing up his kitchen after allegedly drinking a lot of red wine.

In the footage, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor could be heard shouting ‘mother f**ker’ repeatedly and punching a wall.

When asked by Heard, who is behind the camera, what had happened, items were heard seemingly being smashed and thrown.

Upon the video being shown, Heard’s lawyer J Benjamin Rottenborn asked Depp: “This is at your house in West Hollywood.

“That's you on the video. You were violent?”

Depp responded: “Clearly I was having a bad time. I don't know what with regard to, but being illegally recorded by your chosen other is quite fitting with the rest of the photographs and tape recordings.”

He added: “I did assault a couple of cabinets, but I did not touch Miss Heard.”
