Family of ‘missing' Jay Slater witness confirm her whereabouts as she ‘couldn’t be found' to give evidence in court

She was reportedly one of the last people to see Jay alive

Jay Slater's inquest was held yesterday in the UK, nearly a year on from his body being discovered in Tenerife after a month of searching.

The teenager's disappearance while on holiday sparked a significant search last summer, but it took nearly a month for local police to find him, much to the heartbreak of his family.

A post-mortem revealed that Jay had suffered traumatic head injuries compatible with a fall from a significant height, which led to a likely instantaneous death, something confirmed by the coroner at yesterday's inquest in Preston.

Seemingly one of the last people to ever speak to him, friend Lucy Law claimed that she had spoken to Jay on the phone and said that he had 'cut his leg on a cactus', and she raised the alarm with police when he didn't return the morning after a night out.

However, she proved impossible to find alongside fellow friend Brad Hargreaves, with the coroner at yesterday's inquest suggesting that police had failed to locate them.

Dr Adeley said: "We can't find them. They have denied who they are and we have had police looking for them but we can't find them."

Despite this, the family of Lucy Law have now suggested that they weren't even aware that Jay's inquest was being held and that they had no idea that police wanted her to provide evidence.

After a visit to her home in Burnley, her stepfather Andy Davis said: "We had no idea Jay's inquest was even being held today. The police have only just been round today to say that she was due to give evidence. But it's the first time we knew of it.

"They asked if Lucy was home and I said she was abroad and they asked me if I was aware that she should have been in court, and I said I wasn't.

"The police said they had sent Lucy paperwork with the dates on it, but the first I knew about it was when the police turned up earlier today."

Jay's mother Debbie broke down in tears when she was asked by the coroner what she would like them to do about the witnesses not showing up.

In response, she said: "I know you have tried to locate them, but how can we ever get any understanding?

"We know he died and he had an accident, but from him leaving that holiday resort to going up to there...we have read their statements and we want these people to be here sat in front of us, we want to ask them questions.

"Our son went on holiday and didn’t come back so there are questions we need to ask...please."

The inquest at Preston Crown Court also heard a suggestion that some of the witnesses may have been unwilling to appear due to the mix of drugs, namely cocaine, ecstasy, and ketamine, that was found in Jay's body when he was eventually discovered.

Despite the many conspiracy theories that arose around the time of Jay's disappearance, the coroner ruled that there were no signs of assault on the teenager's body before his fall, which suggests that he had fallen.
