A British family have been left devastated and confused after a mum-of-two died in mysterious circumstances during a holiday in Turkey.
Beth and Luke Martin travelled to Turkey at the end of May with their two young children, aged eight and five, but disaster struck just hours after they arrived.
After becoming ill, the 28-year-old struggled to sleep and was 'delirious' the following morning. Despite the language barriers, Luke was able to order an ambulance for his wife, and he and his two kids followed behind in a taxi.
However, he immediately became concerned with the lack of communication and the way in which his wife was treated, claiming that he was 'banned' from seeing her. Tragically, when she was loaded into the ambulance, this was the last time any of the family would see her alive.
The family has been devastated by Beth's mysterious death (GoFundMe) The mum from Portsmouth was reportedly moved into intensive care, with Luke opting to return to the hotel with his two young kids, and the two grandmothers flying out to Turkey to provide support. But, by the time they arrived the next morning, they discovered they were at the wrong hospital, after Beth was allegedly transferred due to 'concerns with her heart', without any word to the family.
Sadly, the news the family were fearing was confirmed just a day after she went to hospital, but what allegedly followed proved to be an extremely traumatic experience for the family.
According to a GoFundMe page seeking to cover the hospital expenses and Beth's safe return to the UK, Luke and his mother-in-law waited hours to see Beth, and even claims that he 'was made to sign a document — without knowing he later translated the statement which had read that Beth had died at around 9am'.
"The doctor asked if Beth had allergies", the page states. "Luke had already told the paramedics when Beth got in the ambulance that she was allergic to penicillin. And yet when told again , they were shocked to hear this information — they had no idea and had been treating her for hours at this point", it claims.
Upon Beth's death being confirmed to them, Luke learned that police had shown up at their hotel and he was accused of 'poisoning' his late wife by Turkish authorities, and was only permitted one minute of time with her in a morgue, before being seemingly forced to carry her body bag through the hospital.
A fundraising page to bring all of Beth home has raised a huge amount (GoFundMe) After a drawn-out process where Luke stayed behind for another two days in Turkey to ensure that he could fly home with his wife's body, an autopsy back in the UK bizarrely revealed that Beth's heart was 'missing'.
"The Turkish hospital has removed it", the GoFundMe page adds. "No explanation. No consent. They have invaded her body and they have TAKEN her heart.
"Her heart. The piece of Beth that was more treasured more than any other. The piece of her that stopped for a moment when she heard her children's first words. The piece of her that skipped a beat when she said 'I do' at her wedding. The piece of her that pumped viscously with pride whenever she was with her family."
On Facebook, Luke wrote: "It has been the worst and most traumatic week of my entire life, and to top it off.. I had to break the news to my babies that their mum isn't coming home, it broke me.
"Even more so when I had to say goodbye to them so they could be brought home by family. Knowing my wife was still on my flight but I couldn't be next to her broke me even more.
"The harsh reality of coming home and the world's still spinning as if nothing has happened is horrible. Realisation of becoming mum and dad, packing her clothes away for the last time, and the deafening silence when the kids are asleep."
The GoFundMe page, which is seeking to cover the costs of the hospital visits in Turkey, as well as the fee of bringing 'all of her back home' has already raised well over £130k at the time of writing, with the page also suggesting that the hospital in Turkey, which remains unnamed, is being investigated for potential negligence.
