People Just Realised Why Will Smith's Kids Are Called Jaden And Willow

The penny has dropped for social media users as to why Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith named their children Willow and Jaden

The penny has dropped for social media users as to why Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith named their children Willow and Jaden.

Smith and Pinkett Smith have been thrust further into the spotlight ever since the 94th Academy Awards which saw Smith take to the stage not only to accept his award for Best Actor, but to deliver a slap to Chris Rock for his 'GI Jane 2' joke about Pinkett Smith's lack of hair.

While a recent revelation by one Twitter user is painfully obvious once you think about it, the internet has been left astounded by the explanation surrounding why the pair's children, Willow and Jaden, received the names they did.

In a since deleted post, a twitter user named Shek detailed her realisation that the siblings' names are a play on their parents' own.

Another user wrote: "I was today years old when I realized jaden and willow smith’s names are just their parents names in different forms???? Goodbye."

"I feel so dumb for just realizing that willow and jaden smith’s names are just variations of their parent’s names," a third commented.

Willow is a 21-year-old singer and actress who starred alongside her father in 2007's I Am Legend.

Jaden similarly appeared in a film alongside Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness (2006).

Smith also has son Willard Smith III – who goes by Trey Smith – with actress-turned-reality TV star and ex-wife Sheree Zampino.

"I thought his name was Trey this whole time just found out today that Trey is his nickname because he's the 3rd Willard Smith," a user wrote.

In response to the backlash his dad faced for slapping Rock at the Oscars, Jaden tweeted: 'And That's How We Do It.' In a since-deleted tweet, he wrote: 'My Dads Speech Made Me Cry.'

Various celebrities have also spoken out about the incident, with comedian Ricky Gervais reflecting on what he'd do if a celebrity hit him mid-performance, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison speaking out in support of Smith and GI Jane hairstylist Enzo Angileri expressing his confusion over the incident.

Smith has since publicly apologised to both the Academy and Rock.

While speculation has been growing over whether he will be stripped of his award, Academy Governor Whoopi Goldberg has noted that while 'there will be consequences,' she doesn't anticipate the Oscar being rescinded.

There also appears to be no hard feelings between Smith and Rock, after the comedian shut down an audience member who shouted 'f**k Will Smith,' during his performance at The Wilbur in Boston on 30 March.
