Prince George And Princess Charlotte React As Queen Whips Out Sandwich From Handbag

Prince George And Princess Charlotte React As Queen Whips Out Sandwich From Handbag

The pair were watching on as their great-gran had a spot of tea with Paddington

Thousands packed onto the Mall last night to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. And though she couldn't be there in person, Liz made an appearance alongside everyone's favourite Peruvian bear. See what they got up to:

Kicking off the star-studded concert, the 96-year-old and Paddington were seen sitting down with one another in Buckingham Palace.

During their chaotic meeting, the iconic Michael Bond character made quite the impression, downing an entire pot of tea and covering the Queen's footman in cream.

But it wouldn't be a Paddington sketch without one thing: a marmalade sandwich.

Trying to make amends, at one point the bear lifts up his red hat to reveal his sarnie, telling Her Majesty: "Perhaps you would like a marmalade sandwich, I always keep one for emergencies."

To which the Queen replied: "So do I," pulling one out of her handbag. "I keep mine in here, for later."

Watching on from the stands, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were spotted giggling and smiling at the sight of their great-gran pulling out the sandwich from her bag.

Capturing the moment, Getty photographer Chris Jackson posted the snap to Twitter, writing: "That moment HM pulled out a marmalade sandwich from her handbag - What an evening!!!"

Many viewers were moved by the amusing and poignant short sketch, with BBC journalist Michael Cowan tweeting: "This on par if not better than the Olympic James Bond scene. The Queen having tea with Paddington - incredible that at 96 and after 70 years on the throne she still has the power to surprise.”

Someone else agreed: "The skit with the Queen and Paddington was so adorable it made me tear up. That she was game for it - And good acting too! What a lovely 70 years...?"

Another said we should ‘get her in EastEnders’, while one other wrote: "Who ever came up with the idea it was fantastic, better than James Bond Olympics and that was brilliant. The Queen's acting was brilliant, we mustn't forget Paddington was CGI (Computer-generated imagery). And whether you're royal supporters or not everyone should love it."

The Queen shared her love of marmalade sandwiches with Paddington.

A fifth added: "This is so sweet!!! I adore Paddington! When he said ‘Thank You for everything!’ - aww! Fantastic (and surprising) opening of the Party at the Palace at Buckingham Palace!"

Earlier in the week, the Queen and the rest of the royal family were treated to a flyover by the Red Arrows.

But it seemed that it was all a little too much for Prince Louis, who was seen covering his ears and grimacing at the noise created by the iconic squadron.

Sharing a snap of the prince's reaction to Twitter, one user said: "Prince Louis is stealing the show on the balcony."

Another chipped in: "Prince Louis is a whole mood."

"Prince Louis was really tired when he appeared on the balcony bless him. Loved him turning to HMQ for a chat. She's great with the young ones," put a third.

While another added: "The noise proves a bit too much for Prince Louis."
