Photographs of UFOs are often dark and grainy, leaving enthusiasts disappointed and skeptics questioning their authenticity.

Back in 2022, however, the 'world's clearest UFO photo' was revealed to the world.

The picture, which was snapped by two unknown hikers in the Scottish Highlands, had been hidden from the public for 30 years.

The unbelievable image shows a diamond-shaped object hovering in the sky, while a fighter jet flies behind it in the distance.

According to eyewitnesses, the UFO hovered in the air for about 10 minutes before shooting upwards and disappearing.

Dubbed the 'Calvine Photograph,' negatives of the picture were originally handed over to Scotland's Daily Record newspaper, who in turn sent it to the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

But, they were never shown to the public until some three decades later.

Academic and journalist Dr David Clarke uncovered the photo after decades of research.

Dr Clarke got in touch with Craig Lindsay, a former RAF press officer, who had kept a copy of the photo after the story was looked into back in the nineties.

Lindsay was still in possession of the original envelope that contained the Calvine photos.

Alongside Vinnie Adams, from campaign group UAP Media UK, Dr Clarke has now ensured that the image will be filed in Sheffield Hallam University’s archives.

Speaking to The Sun, Adams said: "It’s been a privilege to work on this case with such a dedicated team of researchers.

"After 32 years, and an intensive investigation, it feels good to be able to show this elusive photograph to the world."

He also asked that anyone with information about the hikers’ identities come forward.

While the photo may be one of the clearest, it's far from the only supposed 'UFO' sighting to have gone viral over the years.

For instance, one astronomer was left baffled after he caught a 'UFO' flying across the moon.

On 16 March, Dr Sebastian Voltmer was filming the moon's surface, using his C11 telescope, when a ‘fast bright object’ passed in front of it.

The astrophotographer shared several snaps and clips of the sighting to Instagram.

Despite not being a 'UFO fanatic', and doing his due diligence to make sure it wasn't just a satellite or meteor, Voltmer can’t explain what he caught on camera.

He said: "While I was filming the moon, I suddenly saw a fast, bright something darting through the image."
