Terrified Brits flee as shark spotted swimming in shallow water in Spain

Tourists ran out of the water after a shark was spotted lurking in the sea off the coast of Spain

Terrified tourists fled after a shark was spotted lurking in the waters off a Spanish beach.

British holidaymakers were enjoying a relaxing day at the beach when a creature was seen swimming in the sea, close to shore on 27 June.

Emily McEwan took to social media after her vacation in Terremolinos was interrupted by the shark.

In a video posted to her TikTok account, crowds of people can be seen hopping out of the water after being alerted to the sighting.

Speaking to the Sun, Emily said: "It was a little bit of a surprise because we’ve all seen films like Jaws but you never really expect yourself to be in the sea when you see that fin.

"We were just on a family holiday for a few days in Malaga after I had my baby boy.

"A crowd started to gather on the beach whilst we were in the sea and I thought, ‘I don’t like that, I don’t like that’, because whenever a crowd gathers on the beach it usually means something is wrong.

"And then to my right I saw a tail fin. That’s when a lifeguard came out and he sort of went up and down for quite a while."

Emily said that after about half an hour, the lifeguard managed to coax the shark away from the beach.

And despite some people claiming it was actually a turtle, she said it was clear was it was.

"When I saw that shark I thought, 'This can’t be real, like this doesn’t happen. We’re only in Spain and these are really shallow waters. It can’t be possible'," she recalled.

"There was a beach bar as well, the staff were coming down going, ‘Don't worry, it's just a turtle, you don't have to panic’.

"But it didn't really look like a turtle.

Emma was shocked when she saw the shark's fin in the water.

"We all saw that fin and everybody came out of the water, like nobody was brave enough to stay in with that."

Adding: "The shark didn't really show any interest towards us while we were in the water, which was good."

And while Emily tried to find out what kind of shark it was she saw, she's been unable to.

Responding to a comment on her video, she suggests it might have been the same one that was also spotted nearby.

"There was a blue shark sighting the same day not far away in shallow waters so maybe the same shark?" Emily replied.
