Snipers spotted on rooftops as Queen's coffin travels through the UK

They aren't taking any chances

Snipers were spotted lining rooftops in Edinburgh in preparation for the Queen's coffin on Monday, 12 September. Take a look:

The Queen's body was driven from Balmoral Castle to the Scottish capital, where it lay in rest at Palace of Holyroodhouse before being sent to St Giles' Cathedral for the public to pay their respects.

A huge police presence was witnessed as thousands of people descended upon the Royal Mile ahead of Her Majesty's procession yesterday afternoon, 12 September.

As part of the security setup, a number of armed marksmen with sniper rifles were seen lining the rooftops of the Palace of Holyroodhouse and St Giles' Cathedral in order to maintain order outside.

Footage of the marksmen have made their way onto TikTok, with one showing a couple of armed officers on the balcony of a building, alongside the caption: "Snipers in Edinburgh awaiting the queens arrival."

Similar footage was shared with the words: "The ones you don't see in TV."

Another bystander captured two marksmen on top of St Giles' Cathedral, with a commenter writing: "They are protecting everyone from assassins during what’s going on."

Plenty of people have shared their thoughts on the ramped up security in place for the royal processions.

"They will be all over London too," wrote one, while another said, "Don't forget the ones that amongst the civilians too."

A third added, "This month will be the most expensive month in history for hiring security."

LADbible has contacted the Police Service of Scotland for comment.

The transportation of the Queen's coffin from Edinburgh to London is set to start today (13 September), starting off with a Royal Air Force aircraft which will carry the body to RAF Northolt later this evening.

Her Majesty's funeral is set to take place at Westminster Abbey on 19 September at 11.00am.

Queen Elizabeth's death means that her son is now the new monarch, and will go by the title King Charles III.

In the aftermath of her passing, the 73-year-old shared a brief statement in which he thanked his mother for her 70 years of service.

He wrote: "The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

"We mourn profoundly the loss of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved Mother.

"I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.
