American Football Player Knocks Woman Over Then Asks Her Out

Question is, did she say yes?

The world of dating can be absolutely brutal, but sometimes all we need is some guts - as displayed by one American football player, who went viral after he accidentally knocked a sports reporter over then heroically asked her out.

College footballer Prather Hudson was playing for the Georgia Bulldogs, while ESPN's Laura Rutledge was reporting as the drama unfolded.

In the clip tweeted by Rutledge, you can see Hudson come hurtling towards her as she talks to the camera.

Thankfully, Rutledge came out of the accidental tackle unscathed - and even picked herself back up and carried on with her job.

Since she tweeted the footage, Hudson has tweeted to apologise, also taking the occasion to ask her out.

I mean, you have to admire his confidence - not many of us would be able to take an actually pretty awkward situation and smoothly turn it into an opportunity.

A Twitter user then commented on Hudson's tweet to say that Rutledge's lack of reply meant it 'went over her head' - to which Rutledge responded: "Actually nope but I'm married."

Yep, sadly for Hudson, she's already attached to baseball player Josh Rutledge - prompting many people to tweet the footballer to say 'RIP', 'Ultra RIP' and 'Super RIP'.

"So much rip that after the super rip it was a rip for the rip of rips," one said.

Not to worry, though, because the rest of Twitter had Hudson's back, with many applauding his 'shot' and dubbing him a 'smooth criminal' for going for it anyway.

"Man found out how to shoot a shot in football," one said.

Another added: "I respect your confidence young man, keep shooting. You're going far in life."

A third wrote: "Jesus Christ this guy is smooth."

Someone else even suggested: "Should've asked her if she needs picking up in the morning pal."

OOH ER.

To be honest, I'm just glad Rutledge was okay after all that - it looked like a pretty brutal hit that could have easily caused a lot of damage. Perhaps the same can't be said for Hudson's slightly bruised ego, though...
